MATRYOSHKA
a hybrid poetic epic

Helena is a homeless playwright who lives in the alley behind her old theater. She is lost in the memories of her husband who died in a house fire. One morning a beautiful ghost, her reflection in the window, hands her herself in the form of a matryoshka. A golden lady and a three headed hydra begin to haunt her insisting she open the matryoshka. Made of ten tiny dolls one inside the other Helena descends into a fractured aspect of the hero's journey. The matryoshka pathway is a surrealist reminisce of Dante's Inferno with Homer's Odyssey. Helena will discover her true self in the last matryoshka, the smallest one closest to the sun.
